Tampa General Hospital is an Advanced Stroke Recovery Center

As a state-designated comprehensive stroke center, Tampa General Hospital has demonstrated an exceptional proficiency with advanced diagnostic and intervention services for patients suffering from ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes. However, our services go far beyond life-saving interventions. We also serve as a leading stroke recovery center, helping our patients regain function that may have been lost due to their stroke.

The critical first step in recovery is effective emergency intervention. At TGH, this life-saving service is performed by a multidisciplinary team that includes specialists in the fields of neurology, neurosurgery, and neuroradiology. After the immediate stroke complications have been resolved and the patient has had time to stabilize, the rehabilitation process can begin.

When it comes to stroke recovery, each patient’s experience will differ based on numerous factors, the most important of which is the amount of time his or her stroke caused an interruption of blood flow to the brain. Common complications that may require rehabilitative care include paralysis or decreased muscle movement, memory loss, emotional problems, difficulty talking and/or swallowing, trouble reasoning and thinking, and more. As an advanced stroke recovery center, our stroke rehabilitation program involves comprehensive medical, therapeutic, and case management services and is designed to help patients restore function, regain mobility, improve speech and swallowing, and develop strategies to compensate for permanent losses of function. Our multidisciplinary team of inpatient specialists includes:

  • Rehabilitation physicians
  • Internal medicine physicians
  • Physical, occupational, and speech therapists
  • Dieticians
  • Infection prevention specialists
  • Psychologists
  • And other specialists

At TGH, our stroke rehabilitation program offers patients the resources and high level of care they will need to achieve long-term recovery. If you or someone you know has experienced a stroke, it’s best to receive treatment and rehabilitative services at a comprehensive stroke recovery center.
