Tampa General Hospital's Community Health Education department offers a variety of programs to help you identify health risks, manage conditions and achieve better health. Classes and lectures are provided by TGH physicians and certified health educators. Many programs are free and a referral is not required. Contact one of our health educators with any questions:

June 26 | Bleeding Control Basics: Stop the Bleed | TGH Brandon Healthplex
Launched by the White House in October 2015, Stop the Bleed is a national campaign that highlights the importance of Stop the Bleed training. This awareness campaign encourages bystanders to become trained, equipped, and empowered to help in a bleeding emergency before professional help arrives. Join us for our free Bleeding Control Basics class, taught by Tampa General Hospital instructors, and learn skills that can help you save a life during a bleeding emergency.
July 15 | A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls | Brookdale Bayshore 
 Falling is a real fear for many people, especially if you have already experienced a fall.  As children, tripping and falling on the playground may result in scraped knees and a little embarrassment. As we age, falling can cause serious injury that can require hospitalization. Which can cause a real fear of falling. We may stop socializing, exercising and doing other joyful activities because we don’t want to fall. Well, no more. It’s time to take charge of falls and reclaim your life! In this workshop, you will learn to view falls as controllable, set goals for safely increasing activity to live life to the fullest, make changes to reduce the risk of falling at home, exercise to increase strength and balance. If you are concerned about falls, have fallen in the past, restrict activities because of fear of falling, or are interested in improving balance, flexibility and strength. You may benefit from this workshop.This is an 8-session workshop. Each session builds on skills and discussions from the previous session. Meeting dates are July 15, 22, 29; Aug 5, 12, 19, 26; Sept 9. Registration is required as seating is limited. 
Please Note: Parking is available on a 1st come, 1st serve basis in the main parking lot directly in front of the building. Additional parking is available in the auxiliary parking lot at the intersection of Gandy and Bayshore, right next to Kojacks. 
July 19| Prevent T2 Diabetes Lifestyle Change Program | TGH Brandon Healthplex
The Prevent T2 Program Reduces Your Risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes.  If you have prediabetes or other risk factors for type 2 diabetes, now is the time to take charge of your health and make a change. The Prevent T2 lifestyle change program can help! Prevent T2 is part of the National Diabetes Prevention Program, led by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). It features an approach that is proven to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes. As part of a Prevent T2 group, you will work with a trained lifestyle coach and other participants to learn the skills you need to make lasting changes. You will learn to eat healthy, add physical activity to your life, manage stress, stay motivated and solve problems that can get in the way of healthy changes. Prevent T2 is a year-long program with weekly meetings for the first 6 months, then meetings once or twice a month for the second 6 months to help you maintain your healthy lifestyle changes. Each session builds on skills and discussions from the previous session. Meeting dates are July 19, 26; Aug 2, 9, 16, 23, 30; Sep 6, 13, 20, 27; Oct 4, 11, 18, 25; Nov 1, 8, 22; Dec 6, 20; Jan 3, 17; Feb 7; Mar 13; Apr 10; May 8; Jun 12 . August 03 | The Global Big Latch On| S Tampa 
Worldwide studies show breastfeeding saves the lives of infants and reduces the disease burden for both mothers and babies. As a Baby-Friendly® hospital, TGH is committed to encouraging and empowering new mothers to breastfeed from birth.  Join us for The Global Big Latch On event at our TGH Community Health Education Center. New moms are invited to breastfeed their babies and offer peer support to one another. Friends and family members of new moms are also encouraged to attend and support the breastfeeding mothers in our community.  Registration is required as seating is limited.  A minimum number of registrants is required, or event may be cancelled.
Living health with Chronic Conditions, TGH’s Chronic Disease Self-Management Program, is a 6-session program that helps people with chronic conditions learn valuable strategies that will help them build the skills and confidence needed to coordinate all aspects of managing their condition. It teaches the skills needed in the day-to-day management of treatment and to maintain and/or increase life’s activities.  Subjects covered include: 1) techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation, 2) appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility, and endurance, 3) appropriate use of medications, 4) communicating effectively with family, friends, and health professionals, 5) nutrition, 6) decision making, and, 7) how to evaluate new treatments. This is a 6-session workshop. Each session builds on skills and discussions from the previous session. Meeting dates are Aug 22, 29; Sep 5, 12, 19, 26Registration is required as seating is limited.
